How do I back up my emails?

  • Email back up is necessary when you want to delete an email address or want to change email providers (ex: during the go live process). By saving your important emails on your computer you make sure no information gets lost.

To archive messages, create a local folder on your computer (not on the mail server) and drag messages into that folder. This will remove those messages from the server and you will still be able to view them at a later time.

If you are using Apple Mail, click on "inbox" and at the bottom, click the " + " sign. This will prompt you to enter in a folder name; be sure to place it "on my mac" versus making it part of the IMAP account. The folder will appear on the left side under the trash box. Drag messages to that new folder so they are moved off of the server.

This process of backing up email messages onto your computer's hard drive using Apple Mail is also discussed in 'What do I do if my mailbox is full?'.

  • I’m frustrated
We use PCs and when I try to drag the archive folder, once I get out of the webmail window, the folder highlighting goes away.

Ours is a PC office and we do not use Microsoft Entourage. I feel like I'm SOL.
    • Terry,

The archiving guidelines above are for mail clients (i.e. Apple Mail, Entourage, Thunderbird, etc.) -- you'll need to create an archive folder that resides inside the actual program and not on your desktop. If you manage your email through the webmail interface using your browser, you won't be able to create this type of archive folder.

Each liveBooks-hosted email address starts with 1 GB of space. If you're running out, we do offer a few upgrade options {2GB, 5GB and 10GB upgrades} that result in an increase to your hosting fee. Please contact our Support Team if you'd like to arrange for a storage upgrade.
    • Hi Will,
Just to confirm; If I'm using webmail through my mac browser I won't be able to backup my emails & the only way is to pay for more storage? I use a Mac but use the above method to access emails. Is it possible to change so that I access email through Apple Mail & then download & save them? I'm confused about all the POP & IMAP & wouldn't know where to start.
      Thanks
      James

  • I’m pretty concerned I'm not going to get important emails!
My email's nearly full. In order to avoid the disaster 10 days ago I deleted 400 of the 600 messages in my Inbox & thought that would do the trick. The Trash & Deleted Messages folders are empty but it's still had no affect? Why is this? It should have reduced the size of my account dramatically.

I'm using webmail via a mac but can't find any instructions on how to download my Inbox & Sent Folders to my hard drive. I'm hoping that will also increase my capacity. In all the instructions I read they talk about IMAP or POP but I don't know which if any I'm using or even how to find that info out! I'm not using Apple Mail just accessing webmail via Safari.

What else can I do to get my limit down?

I'm up to 952MB of 1GB so need help ASAP.

    Thanks

Sending ALL old LB emails to Gmail Account (not just forwarding new ones).

Hi, I've been reading a lot of the questions and discussions presented in this forum and I can't seem to solve this problem. I've researched IMAP + POP and have been getting forwarded emails successfully in my new Gmail account (from LiveBooks) but I still haven't been able to transfer all of my old emails (as far back as 2010) to my new email account! Help!
